My child’s cast stops mid-thigh. How do I decide between the CL2 and the CL3?
Let the length measurement decide. Measure from the heel to 5cm past the top of the cast, and anything beyond the CL2’s 46cm calls for the CL3, which covers up to 60cm. Circumference is worth checking as well, since both sizes accommodate up to 42cm around the thickest part of the cast.
Where does the seal sit when the cast reaches the groin?
It sits on bare skin of the upper thigh, just above the edge of the cast. Skin in this area creases easily, which can weaken the seal, and smoothing it flat before positioning the cover helps. Having your child lie back with the leg supported works better than a curled-up sitting position.
Our child has a hip spica cast. Is the CL3 suitable?
The CL3 is made for single full leg casts that finish at the upper thigh or groin. A hip spica extends across the pelvis and waist, which goes beyond the area the cover is designed to seal, so please get in touch with us before ordering.
Which part of the cover takes the most wear on a full leg cast?
The heel and toe end, which tend to scrape along the floor of the bath as your child shuffles into position. Laying a mat down and supporting the foot off the bottom reduces the rubbing that can lead to a small puncture.
